Pre-season games are notoriously unreliable as an indication of Summer form. Let's hope, for the club's sake, that the first three friendlies were misleading. Three defeats, one heavy, one thrown away, and the other respectable, herald not much more than a few bruised egos. There certainly were some performances of note - Raheel and Wasif scoring effortless 70's before tiring; Keving 'Gayle' looking dangerous before giving way to a questionable Grumpy Ump decision; some good bowling, particularly from JJ, Matt C and Connor; and a good fielding performance from the Saturday teams, all point to better times ahead.
What we all want/need
This year demands promotion from the 2nd and 3rd XIs, having come so close last year. The 1st XI need to try and avoid 2010's squeaky bum time and the 4th XI can stamp some authority on their new league. Meanwhile Sunday's all-conquering league side move up a notch and the friendly Wildcards can aim to improve on last season's 30% win rate. We can all dream.
