Three up, one down, two and four stay put

The Third XI finally achieved promotion, beating GWR by 6 wickets on the final league weekend to clinch at least 3rd place in Division 4 of the 1987 League. Meanwhile, despite a comprehensive win over Old Actonians, the 1st XI slipped out of the top division for the first time since 2005. Most people agree that immediate promotion is needed to avoid a prolonged stay in the lower reaches of the Middlesex Championship.

The Second and Fourth XIs had nothing to play for other than a bit of fun in the sun - the 2's enjoying a thumping 9 wicket win over West Harrow and the 4's sliding to a loss against a strong Osterley side. Both teams have done well this year without any realistic hopes of promotion from the outset. The 4's have probably done enough to stay in Division 5 even if it splits into two (with the addition of a Division 6).

So one team goes up, one team comes down and the others stay where they were. And the Sunday 1st XI is left waiting to see if promotion beckons....
