Thanks to a friend I came across an article in the Guardian about this particular style of bowling lost in history . I thought it might be an interesting read.…Continue

Chess valley sunday league

Crouch end batted first and murf and mark made 40 start before murf departed which brought zz to the crease and they took the score past 150 when murf gave mark out!! shobuj left quickly and sash then took on the bowling and hit a brisk 30.

207-5 at 45 overs not enough we thought and so it proved with harefield getting home with 4 wkts to spare and 6 overs.

The bowling was average and the fielding less so although full marks to mike for stirling work on the boundary and… Continue

3rd XI vs. Brentham 22nd May

Posted on May 23, 2010 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

This one needed quite a spirited post mortem in the Three Hammers afterwards. The 3rds put Brentham in, failed to make any impression with the new ball and had a long, hot afternoon in the field. It was no mean achievement to limit Brentham to 226 for 7 in their 50 overs, but the run-chase never materialised and Crouch End had to settle for one point for a losing draw on 126 for 9.

Liam never found his rhythm, Hamid pitched consistently short and Brentham got off to a flyer. James… Continue

3rd XI vs Edmonton 15 May 2010

The 3rds came away from Edmonton with a hard-fought win on Sat 15th. Despite a few stutters on the way they posted 243 for 7 off 46 overs and brought Edmonton’s spirited run chase to a close just 14 runs short.

The Crouch End innings fell into several distinct phases. Simon and Sri started up well until the opposition realised that most of the runs were coming off the back foot. Sri’s run-out, for 19, to a direct hit, brought Tim to the wicket who survived a slightly irresponsible… Continue

2nd XI vs North London

Posted on April 26, 2010 at 11:29am 0 Comments

I wasn't sure before Saturday's friendly whether I'd be putting in a report; and when we were about 6 down for 40-odd chasing 276 I was fairly certain I wouldn't bother. But then a marvellous thing happened. We didn't snatch a victory - not that marvellous - but those of us who stayed had the pleasure of witnessing a very special innings from Wasif. With the score on 199 he was last out for 120.

Wasif seldom hangs about: he hits the ball hard, and often in the air. He got going with a… Continue
