After last week’s loss we knew that a winning draw was the minimum requirement against champions Hampstead. This would only do if our two other rivals lost, so a win was the ideal scenario. Last Saturday was a watershed moment. It represented the first time that one of the youngsters from our fledgling Colts system played in a 3rd team League match. Others have played in the 4th team during this year and last, but this shows the progress that we are making in this area as a club. Not only that but the Colt in question, 14 year old Rory Butler, impressed both his team mates and opponents with his performance.

This season has seen us play some excellent and enjoyable games of cricket. Frankly, last Saturday was not one of them. The conditions were not conducive to playing cricket - regular showers stopping the match, it was cold, it was gloomy for much of the time and an unrelenting wind buffeted the players all day. Last Saturday’s excellent victory at Osterley put us right on their coat tails in the second promotion spot. Therefore it was important that we did not slip up against lowly Finchley. We had beaten them easily in the first match but this was to prove a much sterner test … they won the toss and we were asked to bat first on a hard dry pitch.
