1st XI v Turnham Green

Welcome to a new season of action packed 1st XI reports confined to a microcosm of soundbites for the 21st century.  I know you don't have time or motivation to cook, talk or go to the toilet.  So I'm recommending adult nappies, they work OK.  Now read this and then ask someone to change you.  If you can be bothered to get the words out.

We won.  They were shit.  Syed Karrar was great.  We took 10 catches. Omar smashed it.

Turnham Green 65 a/o  43 overs. …

3rds vs Finchley - This Time It's Personal

Finchley Idiot No 1: He's (Joe) running down the pitch.

Jeff (our umpire): No he's not.

Finchley Idiot No 1: If he does it again we're walking off.

Finchley Idiot No 2: (Right in Moni's face) Aaaaaaaaargh

Finchley Idiot No 1: Just so we're absolutely clear, we need to get 165 in 48 overs.

Simon: (impatiently) Yes. (waits for FI No 1 to leave)…

In which KP's maiden CEW century fails to bring victory, but we also avoid humiliating defeat for once

Sunday 27th May

Wildcards 243-3 vs Ex Libris 183-6 – match drawn.

On his first proper stint as Captain, Bazley won the toss and elected to bat on a very hot and sunny afternoon in Crouche End. Despite a couple of early wickets for the visitors, their bowling was fairly poor and Kester Potter soon began to take advantage. After a few early streaky shots in the air he soon settled down, punishing anything that…

4th XI v. GWR 3rd XI (A) Sat 26th May

I was surprised the GWR captain chose to field in the heat of the day until I saw him pace out his run to open the bowling.  He was obviously the team’s best asset and meant to prove it right from the start.  The first wickets fell however to the rookie at the other end.  Both Khalid and Rob Y played too soon to rank short balls; and it wasn’t until the sixth over that the old hand found a very good one to bowl Kashif.  The fact that the score was by then 49 was testimony to the frailties of…

3rds vs Kenton - The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same.

And so, after a false start last week, Crouch End 3rd XI bravely strode forward into the unknown territory of the 1987 League Divsion 3. In the air there was a strange, almost intoxicating mix of the new (new season, new divsion, new ground, new opposition and in the case of Matt, new tattoo) the old (Ralph De Souza and Kevin Moodie!!!, Kenton's No. 11 and the much vaunted return of the TV Quick Crossword) and the familar (win the toss, skittle them for under 100, chase it down, 10 points,…

4th XI Sat 19th May v. Hornsey 4th XI

The 4th XI were soundly beaten by Hornsey 4th in their first league game on Saturday, away, at the St Aloysius School ground.

Crouch End won the toss and fielded; but after 10 overs, and despite the best efforts of Nabil and Stuart, Hornsey’s experienced openers had put on 75 runs.  Andrew and Dominic exerted a bit more control; Andrew had both the openers caught behind by Khalid, had the first precocious youth caught by Peter at square leg then was…

Princes Risborough VS CECC Wildcards 13-5-2012

All CECC London games were cancelled this weekend except for the Wildcards' trip to Aylesbury.  Princes Risborough is a trek indeed.....a 42 mile 1 hour car trip.  However, at the end of the long drive is a truly cracking cricket ground.  The ground was truly beautiful - a dry wicket & a pristine outfield.  The club has covers which have kept the square very dry.  The only disadvantage to weeks under covers appeared to be the ultra-low bounce on the…

First 2012 Report from the Sunday Wildcards

Joe Nickel writes:

Crouch End endured a frustrating experience at Mill Hill Park.

Their players started turning up from 12:30, the scheduled start time. Fifteen minutes later their captain arrived, and requested they field first rather than tossing. Crouch End Skipper Youdale agreed, and was then surprised when they then asked for the start to be further…
