3rds vs MTSCC - Matt and his Chamber(s) of Secret Deliveries

If there is one aspect of my game that I pride myself most on, (its not my batting (8, 2 and 5 so far this season), or my catching (2 drops on Saturday), or my bowling (the Cassowaries warm up game put pay to that)), it is my ability to win the toss. For the previous 2 years I have proved to be an expert tosser, in fact I would go so far as to say I am one of the best tossers at the club. However, this season my tossing skills seem to have diminished, to the stage where I am being out-tossed…

3rds vs Lohana - Beware the Wides of March (well May)

Having played cricket at Crouch End for over 10 years I've seen many things: I've seen a team lose their last 8 wickets for 8 runs, a team mate volley the ball over the rope for 6, Simon score the slowest 50 in recorded history, Dhamendra dancing, Naggers retiring hurt from cramp (damn you haribo!!!!), even a dead hedgehog. But none of these sights could prepare me for a team bowling 51 wides at us. Yes 51, that's nearly 9 overs worth. Cricket, you never fail to surprise!

From the first… Continue

4ths v Perivale Phonecians

Skipper Mohammad Islam writes about his first game in charge...

Unfortunately it was not a good start for my first game as skipper of the 4th XI. Forgetting the score-book, losing the toss, starting the game late in a wet and cold…

3rds vs Highgate - Comeback Kings

As a new season approaches a skipper's mind turns to the infinite possibilities of what his team could achieve. Finishing in a higher position, gaining promotion, even champions. Anything seems plausible. Then after 40 minutes of your first game you're 17 for 5, it's raining, it's cold, you remember that cricket is a cruel mistress and those infinite possibilities crash down to 2. Either we're going home early or we are about to mount a comeback more spectacular than the entire Simon Tanner…
