3rd XI vs Turnham Green Poly 3s - 'Fun in the Sun'

The great view of Ally Pally, as advertised on the website

It is days like last Saturday that make us all play cricket. Forget the ‘freezing cold double jumper’ days or the ‘standing around looking at rain cloud’ days, Saturday was perfect. The conditions as I arrived at Crouch End were sunny and already hot. I am sure that…

Glory in the sun - 4ths vs Shepherds Bush – 26.7.14

“The fewer men, the greater share of honour” said Henry V before laying into the French on Crispin’s Day (or so Shakespeare had it).  So with us against the Bush.  Just nine of us, and we lost the toss, and had to field in baking heat.

But we few, we happy few, we band of brothers, got stuck in.

After 26 overs the Bush were 62 for 4.  They did not seem able to find the holes in our field.  Yours truly was pinning down one end, and at the other Pappu, Symon and Anisul moved the…

4ths Go Forth against Brondesbury IX

Having already beaten Brondesbury this season, their captain had a clever plan up his sleeve to combat the Mo Missiles. This started by him sending off one of his players umpiring for trying to give one of his batsmen out lbw. The outcome of this tactic was the player in question promptly storming off, taking his son with him, leaving them with 9. This was clearly a cunning plan to bring in a ringer sub - an 11 year old Zaheer Khan. Unfortunately, the officious Simon "play it by the book"…

3rd XI vs Lohana 3s - 'Hatch End job'

Old technology wins

Last Saturday saw us travel away to third placed Lohana on the back of gaining 14 points from the previous two games.  It was always going to be one of our toughest games on paper, but not as tough as actually getting everyone to the ground as it turned out.  Recalling last year's debacle where Rob and…

3rd XI vs MTSCC 4s - 'So near, yet so far ...'

So we enter the second half of the season on the back of a good win last week.  There have been many positive signs that our fortunes are turning in the last few weeks and we hoped to continue this good work against the Tamils.  Being woken up by the rain hammering down in the night before brought back the bad 'Baptism of Fire' memories of the first meeting at MTSCC on the opening day.  However, there was to be no 'covers Jenga' this time and everything was 'set fair' as we turned up at…

3rd XI vs Kenton 4s - 'Relegation six pointer'

Every December in every Premier League season we are subjected to those classic footballing clichés about "being bottom at Christmas..." and "being too good to go down".  Generally I always consider these as lazy journalism and think that a side always deserve to be where they are in the table.  Parallels could be drawn with the situation we find ourselves in at the half way point of this season ...

Fast forward to our game on Saturday against Kenton, which…
