3rds vs Finchley - Win at All Costs?

Historically when we lose, I'm prone to get a bit despondant and maybe a touch bitter. Much in the same way that  Joe's 'Think before you speak' teacher, Simon' s stylist, Nikhil's voice projection coach, Nagger's hairdrsser, Steve's back doctor or any Arsenal fan feel. But taking all things into context, I can't get too upset with us turning up with an understrength team, they 'strengthening' their team (at least 4 players clearly too good for this level) and me losing an important toss.…

Living it large in Essex

How to score 285 off 35 overs:

First 10 overs:  40 runs - Bernard being careful, Sam out for 5 , bowled off his pads. Dom gets himself in.

Second 10 overs: we add 87 runs - Bernard and Dom out , but DJ batting like a madman. 646464. Then all of a sudden he gets a nick to the keeper and is out for 57.

Third 10 overs: add 113 runs - Shashi and Robbie J carry on the good work. Bowlers shell shocked.  Fielders demoralised and dropping catches.  DJ comes on as a sub to show…

4th XI v Hornsey 4th IX Sat 27th Aug at St Aloysius School sports ground

Hornsey 4ths might have lost their home fixture on Saturday before it started.  As it was, they had to wait until Crouch End 4ths had bowled them out for 90 and knocked off the runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

At the 12.30pm start time they had one player, at 1pm they had four.  They were indulged with a 1.30pm start, when they won the toss and batted.  They produced two match balls which were not the league ones and, it transpired, fielded an ineligible player.  The Hornsey…

Fun in the Sun at Ruislip: 2nds 21.8.11

I enjoyed this game.  The oppo were a nice bunch, plus (and this is crucial) not quite as good as us.  This was the story of our innings:

First 10 overs:   22 runs, Bernard and Kester see off the opening bowlers.

Next 10 overs:  59 runs. Bernard and Sasha cash in.  Sasha recalled to the crease after "it hit my pad straps, not my bat" controversy.  (Tidy up your gear youngster, to avoid a repetition.)

Next 10 overs:   34 runs, Sasha, Bernard, Bobby, Dilan and Ken out, and…

sunday friendly 21aug vs Edgware & Belmont

Crouch Ends Greatest Captain does it again !! WE WON by 50 runs

In a game which will be known as 'wide sunday' for many years to come, they bowled 26 we bowled 32 !!!

Nabil and Mamoon ( little mosh) opened the batting putting on 55 in 15 overs, then Robbie J ( 55) and Hamid (28) cut loose and we got 203 in our 40 overs. DJ proving he is too good for this level with impressive strike rate of 300.

Onto the bowling, Sam and C. Logan opened both recording personal…

5ths v Old Minchendenians - Even with Sat Nav we still lost our way.

Roman Tennis returns:

When travelling to games there's always the chance when you don't travel in convoy that you'll all arrive at different times increasingly close the the start time.  Simon waited for Roger and George and left at least 20 minutes after Vijay (the 5ths very first skipper trivia fans!), Richard leading the way after kindly offering to take a few to the ground, and Jack.  Cunningly, Simon had sent Antonio in Jack's car with ball scorebook, and keepers stuff…

3rds vs Indian Gymkhana - The Long Good Saturday

You know it's going to be a long day when, after 5 minutes of arriving at the club, Joe empties water off one of the many wet chairs and says "Has it been raining?" This was followed approximately 25 minutes later in the car when Joe followed up with the proclaimation that he wasn't going to hell because "I raised £80 for Red Nose Day." A very long day! Turning up a mere hour early, Sasha enlivened what could have been a tedious wait by nearly reversing my car over Shobuj, proferring the…

2nds vs Rickmansworth Home 14 August. A wiki report.

This match report will be compiled wiki fashion, by team members adding their comments on what they remember of the day.  All the boring stats are on the website.  But to get the ball rolling, here is what I recall.

  • Oppo arrived 35 minutes after game should have started and saw no need to apologise or explain.
  • Roll of honour for Naggers (a gritty 56), Hamid (38) and Hemant (26). Otherwise our batting was pretty weak and for my second game…

4th XI v. North London V Sat 13th Aug - at the Calthorpe Ground

On the day the Crouch End 4th XI played on the Calthorpe ground the points went to the visitors.  The occasion was graced with an undefeated century by Shashi who, with the quiet support of Kashif, dragged the Crouch End innings from 47 for 5 to a defensible 186.  North London however reached the total with a couple of overs to spare.

The North London openers made good use of the lively surface.  Kahlid, Andrew, Ganesh and Richard all made a stab at detaining the…

Sunday Friendly vs. Maccabi- Don't worry, it's only a heavy downpour.

It's fair to say that against another opposition this game would've been called off, but credit has to go to the pure insanity and overenthusiastic attitude of our oppo during what many would've described as heavy rain, torrential, flash flood, end of the world weather and it is thanks to them and their bowling that we can revel in the delight of a win.

Felix (on his return) either won or lost the toss and we ended up batting. Both openers enjoyed fleeting clear skies but soon after…

3rds vs Perivale - Stung Back into Action

Now, I know I didn't write a report last week for the Twickenham game. Let's just say things happened, bad things and it's best we surpress these things until they inevitably spill out in some mid-life crisis meltdown. Anyway, Perivale.

CECC invited Perivale to bat (that's right coin toss followers, back to winning ways), and the tried and tested combo and Joe and Hemant started off as they had done in the heyday of the winning streak. But things have changed and it didn't…

Life after Crimewatch?.... Abbotts Langley VS Wildcards (League)

Stormy weather and stormy moods greeted the CECC Wildcards upon the league match with Abbotts Langley.  A bunch of unruly 14-year old boys, similiar to those causing mayhem in Peckham and Hackney, shouted abuse and threatened violence.  Well not really.... we were in Hertfordshire after all.

Beautiful ground, beautiful bouncey wicket and beautiful freedom - the Wildcards were finally liberated from the tyranical regime of Herr George.  Could the dry weather hold to ensure we…

Match report 6th Aug 4ths

Sorry for not reporting on the friendly match last week but Vijay got a great 60 and Connor excelled himself with both bat and ball. In fact, despite it being the usual cobbled together team I felt several players including Shashi who bowled a long spell and Kashif who found an excellent line and length did very well and but for a few more runs we may have pushed them at least to shut up shop. As it was they won with just 2 overs remaining so it was certainly not an easy result.
