Crouch End Defeated By Butt Family

Star Bowler Kashif bowls out Rob and his chances of being in the third team for getting him out. He also took 2 more wickets such as Nabil who was clueless to a straight ball skying it straight up in the air for an easy caught and bowl wicket for Kashif.

Dilan(60) and Shiva(52) helped set a score of 178 with everyone else contributing. Shiva getting over excited after hitting 3 fours gets bowled by Khurram.Khalid who is not a bowler for Crouch End sends Dilan to the pavilion and has a…

4th XI friendly v. St Ignatius (A) Sat 25th August 2012

The 4th XI Friendly against St Ignatius old boys turned out surprisingly well. It started with most of the team, one by one, taking the captain to one side to explain where or whether they’d like to bowl/bat/keep wicket. Departure was delayed by about 40 minutes as we waited for one of the cars to arrive; and under lowering skies the captain missed the exit from the A10 and in the several-miles it took to rectify the situation participated in a lengthy traffic jam. The toss was lost by a…

A Sunday like no other....

We won. It was awesome.

It was pretty hot and with common sense totally intact, I elected to bowl first. Fastbowler and Hemant provided a very strong opening, ripping through much of the top order with a tone of casualness and regularity. It was certainly very strange, we were sharp in the field, everyone seemed lively  and it was if this team had been winning for fun, like future Leicester City. I had never experienced this on a Sunday. I didn't want to think it, but at 41-4,…

3rds vs Tennyson - "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield"*

* Quote from the other Tennyson, you know the famous one.

With Brondesbury cowering at the thought of Naggers (scoring another century), they quite wisely decided to forfeit earlier in the week, which meant the 3rds had 10 points in the bag and a freebie of a game. The 30+ degree heat meant Courtney only wore a short-sleeve jumper and more controversally, for the first time ever I was prepared to bat first. But I lost the toss and we fielded.

Patrick, making his comeback, and…

4th XI v. Swamibapa (A) Sat 18th August

The 4th XI fixture, away to Swamibapa on Saturday, proceeded without incident and without any Crouch End points.

At least there was no incident once the game started.  At the toss however our umpire and the opposition captain quickly found each other’s point of view and/or means of expressing it objectionable.  The umpire decided the chances of a satisfactory game-long relationship were slim and walked away.  The game managed to govern…

4th XI v. Bessborough 4th XI (H) Sat 11th Aug

The 4th XI game at home to Bessborough on Saturday followed very much the same pattern as the game the week before: a low target, a tense but successful run chase; but this time it was Crouch End who batted first.

Bessborough opened up with the same boy who had reduced Crouch End to 8 for 5 a couple of weeks ago. At the other end they unveiled a similarly precocious talent; and things didn’t go much better this time. It wasn’t a procession: Khalid, Bernard, newcomer Mohammed and…

Sunday league 1st x1 v Edmonton - away 12 aug

Might seem like an extreme first line but read on...... Over 18's only - seriously

Lovely summer afternoon in edmonton starts off all friendly and jolly. A few polite 'hellos' and ' nice to see you' then the Crouch End youth arrive. Trousers hanging dangerously below the waistline! Loud music, hooded tops, swear words every other word, poor hygiene and 'herbal' cigarettes.

"Wha Gwan" says Rhush " What de ass stinking ground we at today, da punk… Continue

4th XI v. Swamibapa (H) Sat 4th Aug 2012

This was a slow burner. By the end it was highly combustible, with victory or defeat hanging on the last ball. In farcical circumstances it was a Crouch End win.

Despite the 4th XI’s poor record for chasing, it was decided to back our bowling strength and field first on winning the toss. Dhamendra took a while to settle bowling up the hill and into the wind, while Kashif looked very dangerous down the hill. The Swamibapa openers rode their luck and by getting to 50 looked to have…

3rds vs Brondesbury - Enter The Nag

There were many celebrations on Saturday night. Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and that ginger long jumper won gold for GB, the 4ths won a game on the last ball and Simon ran out Khalid. But none were as loud, long and slightly sexual as the moment when Mr Phil Nagler smot a beautiful cover drive for 4 and brought up his maiden CECC century. 12 years in the waiting, there then followed a moment of unbridled joy and ectasy, the like I have only heard (many times) before in the confines of the…

2nds vs. Lohana

In films there are moments where the director allows the characters to fall into slow-motion and, I don't know, break something accidentally, creating great, if somewhat cheesy, tension. If our game was a cricket-film, the dismissal of Felix would be in slow-motion. The bowler, flying high, attempted an audacious catch off his bowling, only to fail to collect it before a bounce. "Phew," we thought collectively, on the boundary, as everything sped up to normal-time. But no, (and I really…
