Everyone knows how capricious the Church Road wicket can be. On Saturday 17th Aug against Turnham Green Poly the pitch decided to favour the home side.
When Crouch End batted and the score rose comfortably at 5 an over it looked as if the pitch was being a bit better behaved. So as Rob goes off on his Mickey Mouse holiday (literally - he's going to Disneyland Paris), it has been left to me as vice-captain to write this week's match report. This looked an unenviable task at about 6pm on Saturday evening when I came off from umpiring what was one of the worst spells of cricket that I have been involved in for a long time. We were 48-7 and our promotion hopes seemed to be disappearing rapidly down the toilet. What followed was extraordinary.
