26th Sept 2010 War of the Roses - Rained Off! Or the one where the skipper claimed a stumping off a wide much to Bazley's consternation!

From the battlefield correspondent Tom Morris reports...

The last game of the season always comes with a waft of melancholy in the air, and the Wildcats fixture with Black Rose was no exception. Despite the early start, the clouds hung heavy over the trees, impatiently waiting to draw another…

Saturday Allsorts VS Ivanhoe 25th Sept 2010

Preparing to face an opposition that sound like the chorus line of a 50-Cent song, the last home Saturday game of 2010, was eagerly awaited. So eager that the oppo were at the Crouch End ground a good 45 minutes before almost any Crouch Enders - the only noticeable early bird was Mr Glass, Stu Bell, was he sleeping in the scorebox? hmm....

The day didn't start smoothly. Winter colds starting early, we had one late dropout and young Jamie was running late. In his wisdom, skipper for the… Continue

Sunday Actually Pretty Wildcards

Rob Russell deserves this to be written as he scored 101 not out. A glorious knock that he described as 'much better than that one I got against those girls last year'

Sasha Mistlin was the main support demonstrating his sweep shot to any length or width.

Tea was supported by some very helpful staff. Delightful manners.

Defending 220 was going to be easy and after Joe 'I'm retiring coz nobody loves me and I'm lacking in any useful qualities'…

The Opposition View: Princes Risborough Away

A thrilling game went to the last over, with the Crouch End batsmen scampering through for the winning run with four balls to spare. Earlier in the day Wesley Strecker scored his third hundred of the season and completed 1000 runs for the 2010 season. This was accomplished when he had reached 54 at which point his team mates soundly clapped his inns,so far. His second 50 was so rapid that the scorer had to make sure he had reached his century by which time he was on 107. This is the first time… Continue

PS I should have mentioned poor Matt was left stranded on 60 not out. Left feeling like he'd found a fiver only to have lost a tenner, like winning your money back on a scratch card.

Sunday 19th versus Palm Tree
The visitors decided to bat being short of late players at the time and the heavy overhead conditions allowed Rhushab to produce accurate and quick in-swinging delivers while at the other end Fast Bowler found his length fairly quickly. Rhushab bowled without luck as he was treated with respect and Fast Bowler got a couple to move as well and ended with a 3for. Then the skip for the day, the man in the feline mask came in to the attack and gave a stunning… Continue

Sunday XI v Chingford 12/9/10

This Sunday match started with a number of luxuries in place – some fine late Summer sun, an opposition umpire and the prospect for some 3rd XI regulars to play at the ‘Home of Cricket’. The only problem was presented by Simon pulling out due to flu, therefore leaving the team with only 10 players. Step up Bob Tunnecliffe, who volunteered to play (rather than watch grandson Connor) and dashed home to get his kit. The toss was won by Bobby and after a short team conference, it was decided to bat… Continue

Sat Friendly, Washington, Pro40

Debutant James Fermont started as we wished to go on with a blistering opening stand with Richard Pfieffer.

It was a partnership in the same way that conjoined twins are a partnership. One often the stronger, the other merely surviving. When James was dismissed for 34 the score was on 43 and Richard was on 0. Having crossed, runt of the litter Richard was out next ball.

All this from just 7 overs. Debutant Shyraz ran himself out and DJ was…

1st Versus Glaxo

JURASSIC PARK

Being a dead rubber equal opportunity was to be afforded to all, regardless of four legs being good or bad.

Patrick Bointon was handed a debut and perhaps showed better control than the senior seamers. Highlights include Omar taking the first over seam up, getting carried away and running in fast and Rob's running, sprawling one handed catch off a skier that the dreadlocked Predator called safely…

3rd XI v Alexandra Park - Sat 4th Sept

The 3rds disposed of Alexandra Park at Mill Hill on Saturday doing what they failed to do against Richmond a fortnight ago by knocking-off a small total with relative ease.

AP were a shadow of the side which gave us such a good…

1st Versus Harrow St Marys

THE GREAT ESCAPE

Harrow St Marys were crowned champions last week. Having thrashed Glaxo much to our relief.

We were hoping they may relax a little. At 87-7 [OMAR LOST ANOTHER WET WICKET TOSS] next week's game was our only chance of salvation.

For months now we've been adamant that it'll come down to the final game versus our fellow struggles in a win or die game.

Thankfully, so thankfully, their skipper did relent,…

2nds vs Hanwell

The important toss was won and Keith inserted the opposition in on a soft spongy wicket. Patrick opened the bowling with James and it was James who provided the first break through in his very first over (batsman looped it up to square leg-Patrick). James bowled a tight line to the right handers and had them in all sorts of trouble but somehow kept bowling the same line to the left hander who helped himself. After a good start Patrick sort of lost his control and was hit for a few boundaries.… Continue

Sunday Duffers Versus Gerrards Cross Near Radlett

When the fixture secretary claims this fantastic new fixture is just a stones throw away from you're old stomping ground and you've never heard of the place, let alone seen it on a map, somethings awry.

Gerrards Cross IS close to Radlett. In the same way that Martians may consider the Moon close to the Earth.

Nevermind as it's a lovely ground and will be played in fantastic spirit. The only spirit I anticipate during cricket is a glass of 'victory' or shot of…
