3rd XI vs. Brentham 22nd May

This one needed quite a spirited post mortem in the Three Hammers afterwards. The 3rds put Brentham in, failed to make any impression with the new ball and had a long, hot afternoon in the field. It was no mean achievement to limit Brentham to 226 for 7 in their 50 overs, but the run-chase never materialised and Crouch End had to settle for one point for a losing draw on 126 for 9.

Liam never found his rhythm, Hamid pitched consistently short and Brentham got off to a flyer. James… Continue

1st XI away v pinner
another saturday another easy win !!
Once again Rob Jenkins got his money worth bowling 45 out of the 55 overs. The other overs were shared between Mr Goswami, JJ, Syed and a debut over from skipper Khan.
Pinner were dreadful with the bat, we were poor in the 14 acre field.
Great slip catch from the coach, Kevin made a gully catch look easy and 2 good…

3rd XI vs Edmonton 15 May 2010

The 3rds came away from Edmonton with a hard-fought win on Sat 15th. Despite a few stutters on the way they posted 243 for 7 off 46 overs and brought Edmonton’s spirited run chase to a close just 14 runs short.

The Crouch End innings fell into several distinct phases. Simon and Sri started up well until the opposition realised that most of the runs were coming off the back foot. Sri’s run-out, for 19, to a direct hit, brought Tim to the wicket who survived a slightly irresponsible… Continue

Sunday XI v Enfield North Sunday 16th May 2010

Sunday friendly, home vs Enfield North

Match format:: 40overs

Crouch End 236-8

Enfield North 7-0 (3.5 overs)

Match abandoned due to precipitative intervention of the biblical variety.

Following the previous day’s record set by Crouch End teams 1, 2 and 3, the Sunday friendly team had a bit of a job to do to make it 4 in 4, especially when considering their record over the last few years, writes Kenneth Bazley. That they put themselves in a good position to win the… Continue

1st Versus Pinner

ROBERT HOOD AND HIS MERRY MEN

Robert Jenkins took 5 wickets from poor Pinner and gave it to the rich Crouch Enders.

A superb opening spell from James Jenkins reduced confidence striken Pinner to a faltering start. While two stumpings from Ranil, Maid Marrion to my Robin Hood and a bizarre Hit-Wicket saw Pinner reduced to 110-8.

Big hits was how the peasants responded, just about maintained by Little John 'Syed' and Robin of…

20:20: 14th of May Monitise VS Crouch End

Monitise, a City-based financial mobile software company, made their debut in Crouch End - they turned up in two A-Team style vans with the look of seasoned cricket pros :o) The teams were mixed between regular Crouch Enders and Monitise cricketers. The atmosphere was tense, with each side hungry to comprehensively humilate the other side. 17:45, the 20:20 showdown had started.....

Manas won the toss and put in Rob Youdale's team. Crouch Ender, Bernard George, cemented a good start… Continue

3rd XI v Lohana 3 8th May 2010

Being put in to bat on a slow, low pitch against some tidy bowling the 3rds found runs difficult to come by against Lohana 3rds at Mill Hill on Saturday. In trying to push things along Simon ran himself out, Sri, Rob and James, when given a whiff of a hittable ball all found fielders; and it was only through the dogged efforts of Richard (37), with support from Wasif, Phil and Felix that the score was dragged along to a total of 100 in the…

2nd XI vs North London

I wasn't sure before Saturday's friendly whether I'd be putting in a report; and when we were about 6 down for 40-odd chasing 276 I was fairly certain I wouldn't bother. But then a marvellous thing happened. We didn't snatch a victory - not that marvellous - but those of us who stayed had the pleasure of witnessing a very special innings from Wasif. With the score on 199 he was last out for 120.

Wasif seldom hangs about: he hits the ball hard, and often in the air. He got going with a… Continue
