Last Saturday was to be a definitive day in the season and one that we have been waiting for - Sanjay purchased a new car. He then drove it straight from the ‘garage’ owned by “a guy my dad knows”. One look at it in the car park made Richard decide he didn’t need to drive his car out to Acton after all, and me switch my choice of vehicle (sorry George). The black BMW convertible from the early 1990s allowed Sanjay to scratch his itch to own a classic car and get something to 'impress the…Continue

Excellent couple of weekends for the clubs with the 1s and 2s securing safety in their respective divisions and the 3s achieving an amazing promotion, no doubt building upon the last 2 seasons of hard work. I'd also like to mention the fantastic team spirit that is always on show within the 3s no matter if the game is going well or poorly.
Anyway, here are your stats for the weeks up to week 17 excluding the stats for the 4s for the last couple of…Continue

* For the headline to work you need to know 2 things:
1) 'Quayam' is pronounced 'Kai' 'Am'
2) Who Chesney Hawkes is. (Please view below link for further information)
On paper this should have been a straight forward. We, sitting second playing a team, bottom. But as we know cricket isn't played on paper (that would be impractical) but on grass (sometimes artificial…Continue

Another addition of your Saturday League Stats. Finally managed to get a hold of all of the scorebooks on time too so everyone is up to date. Also, quick shout out to Hitesh for scoring his first century for us this season. He now has 681 runs and 30 wickets for the 1s and the 2s with the season yet to draw to a close.

After successive league victories over Hemel Hempstead and Harefield it seemed like nothing could stop the Sunday side…until Cockfosters pulled out of the scheduled league match, and South Hampstead turned up for a friendly. Among the avid spectators at the CECC Theatre of Dreams was Rory Kinnear (of James Bond fame), Paul Brooke (check imdb to flick your switch) and a host of other Hollywood celebs.
Batting first with a strong line-up, things didn’t go quite to plan, despite some…Continue
If last week's game against Uxbridge was important, this week's was even more so. With Highgate only 3 points behind us, a win would be great, but priority number one was not to lose. And so to the toss.
Once the coin had been verified for its balanced head/tail consistency, said coin was tossed and then proceeded to roll a good half metre before falling agonisingly the wrong side. We were batting.
Asif (who timed his arrival perfectly: arrive, pad up, go and bat) and Ravi…Continue
Hi guys - sorry for the delay in stats: found it hard to get my hands on the scorebooks over the last couple of weeks and indeed, the stats for the 4s are still missing. Anyway; here you go. Quick shout outs to Pratik and Hitesh for having already scored 500+ runs this season.

The day started well. The sun was shining, everyone turned up on time, and Simon was even wearing a shirt I would describe as 'passable'. And in cricketing terms I won the toss and we bowled.
Ricardo and Symon started steadily, with the latter picking up an early wicket. Dave replaced Ricardo to start an epic 15 over stint, but at drinks Uxbridge were handily placed at 82 for 1. Enter the alice band and enter Patrick in a stint that would change the game, taking 3 wickets and ripping…Continue

On a clear, bright, bat-first day, Harefield won the toss and chose to bowl. A very young side, with some promising
cricketers. I’m glad we faced them this week and not in 2030.
Opener Asif started slowly – 14 not out after 20ish overs - but gritted it out, found some form and accelerated through the final overs. He carried his bat, finished 71 not out and…Continue
Definition of a Hungarian goulash – basically, a few leftovers put together with a bit of meat about to turn a.k.a. Crouch End IVs. The ingredients this week, the usual creaking backbone, with a couple of added colts, a nag returned from retirement and, yes, a Hungarian who, despite his enthusiasm, had never lifted a bat in his life. And so, on a hot sweltering day in Wembley, the stew was put out to simmer.
Despite a half decent start, the short boundary, slow wicket and erratic…Continue
A big white van with the party balloons was already waiting at the gates when I arrived at high noon for the showdown, in anticipation of a famous Crouch End victory over Dave Jenkins’ visiting Hemel Hempstead side. Surely Dave’s cowboys couldn’t steal the Wagon Wheels?
Skipper Mark and Naggers opened the batting, but finding any gaps in an alert HH field looked tough going, with Mr Babbage showing the runrate hovering around 2 after 10 overs, the skip eventually clipping to gully. By…Continue
