My first game as captain in many years ensured a restless few days before the match and friday night proved very hard to get some shut eye before 3am, perhaps the loud music and chasing of girls was to blame.

On to the match, i planned my batting line up to perfection then Kamlesh decided to become a thespian and 'break a leg' - his replacement was my dear friend of 15 years Dr Death / Shiva. Although is a good pal and has found out u can take more than £10 from a cash machine his cricket ability is not what i want in my team when im skipper!!!

I lost the toss and their captain spoke to their whole team for 5 mins before we were put into bat. I will use the andrew smith style report for my top 4 batmen. Nick played solidly for his 4 ball duck, Keith looked dangerous as he smashed his way to a quick 6, future first team skipper Chris showed his true northern grit in a determned 1 and zin zan looked in fabulous form for his 6. we were 17-4. Raheel and Shiva in ( shiva only batting at 6 cos he took the pen from me as scorer and wrote his own name in !!! By now i was ready to end our 15 yr relationship and even more so when he ran raheel (12) out. In goes the silent assassin Wasif and they put on 90, Shiva bats superbly with good shot selection ( this wont be said about him for the rest of the season ) 2 big sixes and he ends up on 68. Now being a captain means u have to let numbers 9,10 and 11 know the bad news, u r the tail, the look of disappointment on number 9 face will haunt me forever, he was stunned, shocked, saddened almost outraged as he threatened to kill me and demanded Mark back into the side. This number 9 was ME. We were all out in the 55th over for 178 ( eight bonus batting points secured - in my head anyway)

On to tea which was 780 meters away, 8/10 cos they has scones and cream, mmmmmmmm

onto the bowling, or fielding as i like to call it.

The lads were superb, Zinzan 7 over for just 6 runs, Raheel 13 overs 2 for 29, Wasif 6 overs 19, Patrick 8 overs 30, Sri another 5 bought wks for 27. The boy is a wkt machine

The oppo had no answer to the Crouch End skippers tactics and were 11 off 11, then 57 off 25, Total retards had no idea what was going on. 117 in 45 overs. winning draw to Dave Jenkins and his crouch enders

Even my smashed car window didnt upset me !! i had done the impossible - got a winning draw from a tough pitch after being put into bat first, with the worst 2nd Xi ive ever had, this guy will go far !!

Great fielding from Chris and Nick, top catch from Pat and Keith ( 60 years of age ) with 3 stumpings and helping with the field placements.

Captaincy is tough so all players out there next match i want u to give your own skipper, Rob J, Mark, Rob R, Andrew, Bernard and Booby Y and dam tough time !!!!

Good stuff DJ. One question though - Who is this Booby Y referred to in the last paragraph? Sounds as he/she could be our breast player.
