4th XI v. Hornsey 4ths (H) Sat 21st July

The 4th XI lost another opportunity to score some runs on Saturday, at the Church Road home ground against Hornsey 4ths, and the game by 6 wickets.

A soft pitch, a grassy outfield, two self-inflicted run outs (by Rob Y), some poor shots and some good leg-break bowling reduced Crouch End to 62 all out in 46 overs. There were no boundaries and a top score of 16 (by Rob Y).

Hornsey were made to work for their win.  Des, Kiran and debutant Doug all bowled well; but Hornsey had a wise old head at No 1 who rode his luck and steered them to 63 for 4 in the 26th over.

The shortest report in recent history.  Many thanks to those who responded to Simon’s call.  We put out a perfectly respectable 4th XI who should have done a whole lot better.  Conditions have been difficult recently; and Simon is sure he has upset the gods somehow; but from somewhere we must find the application to put together some intelligent innings.
