8th May CECC v Eastside Match Report from Skipper Mark

Match report, CECC Sunday side vs EastSide

The weather was great. Good sunshine and hot, around 25C. I won the toss and elected to bat. We made 209 for 8. significant Innings from Ross (78), john (33*) and kev (25). Plus some lusty blows from Sham. We were definitely in with a shout at tea time.

it was an excellent fast bowler tea.

In response we saw good bowling from Doug (3-42) in first outing this season and a cameo bowling performance from richard. Also notable were Waqas (2-16) and john (1-29) with maiden wickets for CECC.

But we let them speed off to a rapid start, with a 4 off the first ball which bounced off mid on's heel (my heel). Doug took two early wickets bowling a tidy left arm line. Prashant helped slow the run rate temporarily as first change, but they accelerated again.

Farlan (I can't read the scorebook!) got a ton but was dropped at least 3 times, twice in one of john's overs. They reached the required 210 in 27.2 overs. Over drinks later, their lads told me that if we'd got Farlan out cheaply, they would have crumbled! Hindsight, eh?

But fundamentally our bowling lacked bite and we dropped too many catches. And with 3 creakies in the side, and kev semi-crocked, we were lacklustre in the field generally.

However, this is an improvement from last week. And better yet to come I'm sure. (Where's that Nickel?)
