For the second time this year, we lined up against a brand new cricket team. Plastics only formed this year. This is a really great sign that cricket is alive and thriving.
CECC won the toss, and elected to bat. Even though Ravi couldn’t open with Neil as he injured himself on Saturday, we had the benefit of Yorky to biff a few early runs, falling for 19 with our total on 53. Out came Rory. 150 runs later he was out, after scoring his maiden half century for the club. Wow. A real privilege to have been there to see it. (and for me to have been captain on the day). Neil inevitably scored another ton for the Sunday side – well he had to make up for last week – and john chipped in with a few to take us up to 219-2.
We opened with Ollie down the hill and Sohael up. Each took a wicket and after 11 overs, it was pretty clear that Plastics were unlikely to make the run rate. Sandler tried to help them by offering about 1/4 of their runs off just 3 overs, but everyone else bowled tightly, though Yorky did his best to help his captain look marginally less incompetent! Pick of the bowlers with a FastBowler-like performance was Felix with 7-3-7-3. Fred took 2 for 8 and matt took the other wicket. Keeper Courtney let through just 1 bye in an impressive performance. Pretty much everyone had a bowl or a bat, and Rory also took a wicket to go with his 50 – and then ran off without buying a jug! I dunno: yoof of today.
So a CECC victory to close the season at Calthorpe Ground. Yay!
